Detroit Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs Finds a Forever Home with Shelter Volunteers Greg and Dusty Ross

Greg and Dusty Ross adopted Jahmyr Gibbs after they assisted him and his grandmother, Angela Willis, while they were in a nearby shelter. Neka Willis and an unidentified father are Jahmyr Gibbs’s biological parents; he remains close to his mother.

Born on March 20, 2002, Jahmyr Gibbs, also known as “SONIC,” is an American running back who plays for the NFL’s Detroit Lions.

After playing collegiate football for the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, the Detroit Lions selected him in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Furthermore, Gibbs made the All-Rookie Team and earned a selection for the Pro Bowl in his rookie season.

Growing up in Dalton, Georgia, Gibbs went to Dalton High School, where, as a sophomore, he ran for 897 yards and 10 touchdowns.

In addition, he received first-team All-American, Georgia 6-A 2020 Offensive Player of the Year, and first-team all-state honors.

Surprisingly, Gibbs, initially rated as a three-star recruit, committed to play collegiate football for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

After his junior year, he received offers from North Carolina, Texas A&M, and Michigan.

During his senior year, Gibbs was re-rated as a four-star prospect and was courted by Georgia, Alabama, and Florida, but he ultimately chose to stay at Georgia Tech.

Greg and Dusty Ross adopted Jahmyr Gibbs After He Moved in With Them in 2017

Born and raised in Delton, Jahmyr was the son of Neka Willis and an unidentified father. However, his parents separated after he was born.

Since he was 13, his grandmother, Angela Willis, has lovingly raised him and is his legal guardian.

Throughout his early years, Gibbs experienced numerous hardships, including having to stay at a local shelter with his grandmother.

Jahmyr met Dusty Ross and Greg Ross, his adoptive parents, while they were helping out at the shelter.

After they grew closer and learned more about Jahmyr, he moved in with them in 2017, and they later adopted him.

Before that, he had been living in different homes, but the Ross family provided him with a secure residence that allowed him to follow his passion.

In addition, Max Ross, John Ross, Ahmand Tanner, and Jahmyr Gibbs are the four sons of Greg and Dusty Ross.

Fascinatingly, Jahmyr’s half-brother was also a football player; Ahmaad Tanner played for Austin Peay State University.

Max Ross, who looks like a recent high school graduate, was a member of his high school football team.

Furthermore, Josh Ross was a teammate of Gibbs on the football team while attending Georgia Tech.

Gibbs’ grandmother still actively participates in his upbringing and frequently visits to check on him.

Additionally, Jahmyr has a close relationship with his mother, Neka Willis, and aunt, Mia Willis, who are constantly seen encouraging him.
