Tiger Woods Celebrates His Diverse Ethnicity With a Unique Term Reflecting His Roots

American professional golfer Tiger Woods represents a multi-heritage background, encompassing African-American, Asian, European, and Native American ethnicity.

The father-son duo has showcased incredible performances during the championship, tying for first place in the competition held in Orlando.

Through their collaboration, they have reportedly increased the viewership of the PNC championship, showcasing their immense popularity.

Earl and Kultida Woods Proudly Raised Tiger Woods in a Multicultural Household

Tiger was born to parents Earl and Kultida and was raised in a loving household until Earl’s passing in 2006.

His father, Earl Woods, belonged to African-American, Chinese, and American-Indian ancestry.

Meanwhile, his mother, Kultida Woods, traced her ethnicity to Thai, Caucasian and Chinese ancestry.

Reportedly, the two met during the 1960s when Earl served as a soldier for the US Army and was stationed in Thailand.

Later, Kultida followed him to New York City after his deployment, and the two eventually tied the knot.

Tiger and his mother share a strong bond, with her attending his matches frequently to show her unwavering support.

Kultida “Tida” Woods was born in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, and has faithfully followed Buddhism since childhood.

Besides, Kultida actively dedicates herself to philanthropy and participates in projects in Thailand through the Tiger Woods Foundation.

Recently, she received the “Mother of The Year” award from an Asian-American organization, underscoring her devotion as a mother.

Tiger Woods Coined the Term “Cablinasian” to Define His Mixed Ethnicity

The veteran is the only child of parents Earl and Kultida “Tida” Woods, who came from a multi-ethnic background.

Hence, to explain his diverse heritage, Woods came up with a unique term called “Cablinasian” in 1997.

When he appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Woods took the time to explain why he had created the term.

The golfer described that during his school days, he had to place a checkmark on forms indicating his race.

However, since those forms didn’t include the multiracial option then, he decided to create the term “Cablinasian.”

Tiger Woods further elaborated that the expression is an abbreviation for Caucasian, Black Indian (Native American), and Asian.

The celebrated athlete shared that the term African-American felt too restrictive and excluded his mother’s heritage.

As a result, with “Cablinasian,” he aimed to proudly incorporate both his parents’ ancestries into his racial identity.
