RB Aaron Jones Celebrates His African American Ethnicity and Embraces Mexican Culture

Aaron Jones is of African-American ethnicity, but because he always wears a sombrero, people mistakenly think he is Mexican.

Aaron Jones plays football professionally for the National Football League (NFL) as a running back for the Minnesota Vikings.

In the fifth round of the 2017 NFL draft, the Green Bay Packers selected him after he played collegiate football for the UTP Miners.

During his seven seasons with the Packers, Jones made the Pro Bowl in 2020 and led the league in rushing touchdowns in 2019.

In addition, Aaron Jones has a respectable third-place finish on the team’s all-time rushing yards list.

Aaron Jones’ Parents Were of African Descent and Non-commissioned Officers in the US Army

Aaron Jones was born to Vurgess and Alvin Jones Sr., both of whom were career non-commissioned officers in the US Army.

Along with his twin brother Alvin Jr., Aaron Jones was born in Savannah, Georgia, on December 2, 1994.

Aaron had three siblings in total: a twin brother, a sister, and a brother. His older brother’s name is Xavier, and his sister’s is Chelsrae.

Due to their parents’ postings, they frequently lived in Germany, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and the city of El Paso.

Aaron had a lot of memories of El Paso, which is close to the Mexican border, because he spent so much time there.

Moreover, Aaron Jones takes pride in his African American ethnicity because his parents were of African descent.

In addition to being hard-working individuals, Aaron’s mother had served US Army for 27 years and the father for 29.

To help his sons get hired, his father launched a marketing firm after he retired before his senior year.

Unfortunately, his father died at the age of 57 during the catastrophic COVID-19 pandemic, and he had to deal with severe complications.

His mother became the most significant member of the family after his father passed away on April 6, 2021.

Aaron, the 2024 Salute to Service nominee for the Vikings, discussed his mother’s impact on his life.

Except for deployments and a two-year stint in South Carolina, Ms. Jones never missed a football game.

Aaron Jones Is Seen Wearing Sombrero, Which Leads to Believe He May Be Mexican

People constantly spot Aaron rocking a sombrero during his outbursts on social media and at events, which is impossible to miss.

Mexican men wear sombreros, wide-brimmed hats, to protect their faces and eyes from the sun.

Moreover, fans and others who have witnessed him wearing it and frequently posing with it assume he is Mexican or has some other ancestry.

Although he has some connection to Mexican culture, it is wholly untrue, and his ancestry related to Mexico.

Aaron’s embrace of Mexican culture and wearing sombreros are linked to two stories: El Paso and his girlfriend.

The cultures were not that different before his parents’ posting to El Paso, but everything changed once they were there.

Moreover, he saw it for himself when he got to the city of more than 600,000 people, which is across from Juárez, Mexico.

The majority of people in El Paso are Hispanic or Latino (more than 80 percent), while only 3.4 percent are Black.

Excitingly, Aaron said that adjusting to a different culture was “a lot of fun” and that he thoroughly enjoyed the change.

Another reason is that his girlfriend, of Hispanic descent, betted he would not wear his sombreros during the game.

In response, he wore a sombrero during the Dallas game. He enjoys representing his Hispanic side and feels it is now part of his custom.

In addition, he honors El Paso with his trademark touchdown celebration, which consists of him flexing his bicep after quickly holding up nine, one, and five fingers.
