Basketball Prodigy Janis Timma Built a Net Worth of Million Before His Death

The 32-year-old basketball player Janis Timma, who lost his life by self-harm in Moscow on Tuesday, had amassed an estimated net worth of one million dollars prior to his passing.

Born on July 2, 1992, Janis Timma was a 6′ 7″ Latvian professional basketball player who primarily played small forward.

Furthermore, his family raised Timma playing basketball in his native Krāslava, but he moved to Rīga at the age of 15.

After relocating to Riga, he joined the youth system and played sparingly for the senior squad at the end of the campaign.

Interestingly, that is where his basketball career started, and he played for 16 seasons in various leagues and tournaments across the world.

Timma was preparing for a new milestone after signing with Monbus Obradoiro of Spain’s Liga ACB in February 2024.

Regretfully, Janis Timma passed away on December 16, 2024, from self-harm, and his body was discovered at a Moscow building’s entrance.

Since his ex-wife, Russian-Ukrainian pop star Anna Sedokova, filed for divorce a few months ago, Timma’s life has been difficult.

Despite their four years of marriage, the couple had no children together, and Anna had a son from a previous marriage.

The sports and basketball communities have been mourning the young star’s passing and praying for his family.

Janis Timma Increased His Net Worth by Playing in the Euro League

As a result of his more than fifteen-year career, which took him all over Europe and America, Janis Timma had gained both fame and fortune.

In the same way, Janis played for elite European teams like Baskonia and Olympiacos and won numerous titles with VEF Rīga.

Additionally, he earned a lot of money from playing in the Euro League, which was his primary source of income.

Timma spent four years as a player in the EuroLeague, which is the most well-known basketball league in Europe and is essentially the NBA’s European equivalent.

The average season salary for a basketball player in the EuroLeague is reportedly between $500,000 and $800,000.

Although the precise amount Timma made from his contracts with his team is unknown, it was essentially between that amount.

Additionally, the Memphis Grizzlies selected Timma in the second round, but he would not be eligible for the rookie wage scale because they picked him 60th overall.

Most clubs will sign two-way contracts that let teams split their season between the NBA and the G-League, and they typically “sign deals with minimal or no guaranteed money.”

After being traded to the Orlando Magic in June 2015, Timma also played for them, earning a respectable salary.

In addition to playing 20 games for VEF Riga in Latvia, Timma received a League of Professional Basketball All-Star selection.

Interestingly, Timma’s income came from various sources besides contracts and salaries, including brand deals and business ventures.

In addition to being the CEO of FitSpace, a fitness app, and supplement line, he had previously worked with several small brands.

Amazingly, experts estimate that at the time of his death, his net worth was close to one million dollars, including his brand endorsements and all contract salaries.
