NFL Free Agent Diontae Johnson Strictly Adheres to His Religion and Always Puts God First

Diontae Johnson has not publicly talked about his religion in particular, but he writes “God 1st” in his bio and uses social media to demonstrate his faith in God.

Born on July 5, 1996, Diontae Lamarcus Johnson is a free agent and a professional wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL).

In the third round of the 2019 NFL draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected him after he played collegiate football for the Toledo Rockets.

The Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans, and Carolina Panthers are among the teams he has played for.

Furthermore, Johnson went to Ruskin, Florida’s Earl J. Lennard High School, where he played football.

On December 20, 2024, the Ravens waived Johnson; on December 23, 2024, the Houston Texans claimed him off waivers.

However, it took the Texans only two games to raise the white flag, and on January 14, 2025, they waived Johnson.

This makes them the third team to sever their relationship with Diontae Johnson this season.

Additionally, he only contributed three receptions for 24 yards to the Texans, including a single 12-yard catch during Saturday’s wild-card victory over the Chargers.

After the catch, Johnson appeared visibly upset, and teammates, including captain Azeez Al-Shaair, tried to console him over what he viewed as another disappointing performance that led to a missed opportunity.

Speaking on Tuesday, Dontae coach DeMeco Ryans stated,

Unfortunately, with Diontae it didn’t work out, We’re on to the Chiefs.

Therefore, as the Texans prepare to play the Chiefs in the Divisional Round, Johnson is a pending unrestricted free agent.

Over his six-year career, Johnson has experienced two trades, two cuts, and four different teams.

Diontae Johnson Has Not Publicly Revealed His Religion, But It Is Assumed That He Is a Christian

Dontae Johnson claims to be deeply religious on social media, but his true religion is not disclosed.

In addition, he prioritizes God and demonstrates this by writing “God 1st in his social media bio.

Although it does not specifically mention a religion, Christianity is the most widely recognized connection.

In accordance with biblical teachings like Matthew 6:33, “Seek first the kingdom of God…” Christians usually emphasize putting God first in every aspect of life.

Additionally, he wrote something on Twitter that led more people to believe he was Christian. It read,

It’s not about how much faith you have, it’s about WHO your faith is in.

Nevertheless, it depends on the individual’s cultural or religious background because people of other religions, like Islam or Judaism, may also use similar language to show their devotion.

Diontae practices his religion with clear belief and devotion, regardless of what it may be.

Also, the wide receiver’s mother, Felicia Boyer, passed away when he was very young, and he was brought up by his hardworking father, Leo Johnson, which may be the reason for his strong religious beliefs.

Additional Information

  • It is estimated that Diontae Johnson is worth approximately $10 million.

  • His mother, Felicia Boyer, fought breast cancer and died when Diontae was only five years old. Furthermore, she was only 24 years old at the time.
