With Raiders and Cowboys Filling Their Coaching Spots, Saints Are Now the NFL’s Lone Team Without a Head Coach

The only NFL teams without a head coach were the Saints, Raiders, and Cowboys, but the Cowboys and the Rangers recently hired new coaches. As a result, the Saints are now the only team without a head coach.

Big changes always occur during the NFL offseason, and for some teams, that means hiring a new head coach.

Because a good coach can turn things around and set the tone for future success, this is one of the most crucial decisions a team can make.

Although the majority of teams have already selected their head coach for the forthcoming campaign, some have not yet made their choice.

The New Orleans Saints Continue to Be the Only NFL Team Without a Head Coach

The Dallas Cowboys, Las Vegas Raiders, and New Orleans Saints were the three NFL teams without a head coach.

However, the other teams have already hired their head coaches, and as of January 26, the Saints are the only team without one.

That might not last long, though, as it was just announced that the Saints have finished their third in-person interview for the head coach position that is currently open.

Additionally, the Saints have finished their in-person head coach interview, this time with Mike Kafka, the offensive coordinator for the Giants.

After Darren Rizzi over a week ago and Anthony Weaver on Friday, Kafka is the third in-person interview the Saints have done.

In addition, the New Orleans Saints are currently searching for a new head coach after firing Dennis Allen, who had been with the team since 2015, including a two-year stint as head coach.

Despite leading the Saints to multiple postseason trips, the team fired Allen following a difficult 2024 season.

Meanwhile, the Saints’ longtime offensive coordinator, Darren Rizzi, has been in charge of the team

As the team started looking for a long-term manager, Rizzi became interim head coach.

With a new coach, the Saints are starting a new chapter in their history as they attempt to rebuild and get back to their postseason-contending ways.

The Raiders Hired Pete Carroll and the Dallas Cowboys Hired Brian Schottenheimer

On January 23, 2025, the Las Vegas Raiders made headlines when they announced Pete Carroll as their new head coach.

Known for his tenure with the Seattle Seahawks, Carroll offers the Raiders a wealth of experience, including a Super Bowl victory.

Moreover, fans expect his leadership to help revive the team, which has struggled recently.

Furthermore, Carroll replaced Josh McDaniels, who was the Raiders’ head coach from 2022-2024.

McDaniels failed to guide the team to the playoffs and displayed inconsistent performance during his dismal two-year tenure, so the team fired him.

Similarly, Dallas decided to fire head coach Mike McCarthy, who had been in charge since 2020, to come up with a fresh plan.

Despite several postseason appearances during McCarthy’s tenure, the team made the change because he failed to reach Super Bowl ambitions.

Following indecision, the Dallas Cowboys unexpectedly appointed Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach.

On January 24, 2025, Brian Schottenheimer was appointed head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

Previously known as the offensive coordinator for the Cowboys, Schottenheimer has a wealth of NFL coaching experience.

Furthermore, his appointment is intended to infuse a team that has struggled in the postseason with new vitality and focus.
