Jaguars followers and the owner expect HC Liam Coen to turn the tables for the team, developing the team’s offense and QBs in the coming season. Stakes are higher for both Jacksonville Jaguars and HC Liam Coen.
The NFL Jacksonville Jaguars have officially appointed Liam Coen as their new head coach in 2025.
Liam was previously working as the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Reports suggest he was among the first few candidate coaches for the Jaguars HC position.
At this time, the NFL team was in a state of transition and uncertainty. They have been searching for a new HC since Doug Pederson’s departure.
However, people believe Liam Coen can revise the Jaguars’ disappointing 4-13 record last season. They ranked last in the AFC South.
He has been working as a coach since 2010 after playing for Alabama Vipers in 2010.
The HC has already worked for seven teams throughout his coaching career.
Head Coach Liam Coen initially doubted the Jaguars structure under GMÂ Trent Baalke, but he joined after his firing!
Hiring Coen as the head coach wasn’t straightforward for owner Shad Khan. The journey was with twists and turns, but the Jaguars eventually convinced him.
Liam Coen’s impressive track records, including leading the Buccaneers top-ranked offense, made him attractive.
Despite the Jacksonville Jaguars’ interest in appointing him, he quit running for the Jaguars’ job.
Even the Buccaneers tried to keep him on the team, offering him a lucrative contract extension. Even Liam verbally agreed to the extension.
However, reports suggest that the presence of GM Trent Baalke was a potential obstacle for Coen to join the Jaguars.

He was hesitant about the organizational structure and dynamics of the Jacksonville Jaguars under Baalke.
After the owner fired the GM, the team became more appealing to Coen. It allowed the HC to re-enter and compete for the job.
As Trent Baalke departed, the team leaned on the ass. GM Eithan Waugh and Tony Boselli. They eventually brought Liam on board.
Jaguars believe that their new Coach, with his experience, can develop a new structure with QB Trevor Lawerence.
Besides, he would also work with WR Brian Thomas Jr. and other picks in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Talking about his experience, Liam Coen began his coaching journey with Brown University in 2010.
After working at several ranks, he served Rhode Island, UMass, and the University of Maine.
At Maine, Jaguars HC was one of the vital characters in developing QBs Dan Collins and Chris Ferguson. There, he was an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Liam transitioned to the NFL in 2018 with the Rams. He extensively worked under head coach Sean McVay at the Rams.
First, he was an assistant wide receivers coach. However, he later transitioned to assistant quarterbacks coach.
In 2020, Coen took on the OC and QB coach role at the University of Kentucky under HC Mark Stoops.
There, he helped the Wildcats reach an outstanding 10-3 record. Liam Coen’s role was significant in securing the Citrus Bowl victory.
In 2022, he returned as OC to the Los Angeles Rams and again transitioned to the Wildcats for his second stint.
Just after a season, the Jaguars coach returned to the NFL. He joined the Buccaneers in 2024 under Todd Bowles.
However, his time there didn’t last long due to his move to Jacksonville Jaguars as their leader in 2025.
